What To Expect: Home Additions Projects

At our initial meeting, we'll discuss:

  • Purpose and style of the addition
  • Feasibility, considering size of lot and set-back requirements
  • Complexity of internal and external tie-in to the rest of the house, including grading issues
  • Budget

Based on these factors, we will recommend the best fit from our network of recommend architects. Depending on your comfort level with design decisions, we can also recommend a designer to work as part of the planning team.

Once the architect has produced a pricing (or bid) set of plans, Denny + Gardner will prepare its estimate for construction, which includes labor and all building materials. The estimate includes step-by-step details for every phase of your project, so there are no surprises down the road.

A permit set of plans is submitted to the county and once permits are received, a start date and schedule are set.

Your addition will have its own unique attributes, but in general, the steps for constructing addition are:

  1. Site Preparation
  2. Wall Framing
  3. Siding
  4. Doors and Trim
  5. Windows and Trim
  6. Plumbing
  7. HVAC
  8. Electrical
  9. Insulation
  10. Interior Walls
  11. Ceiling Details
  12. Millwork and Trim
  13. Floor Covering
  14. Painting
  15. Punch-Out
