Basement windows are important for maximum light and for code-required emergency escape. A window can be considered an exit if the bottom of the window is not more than 54" from the floor.
Make sure your floor plan leaves easy access to your mechanical systems (heating, cooling, water, electric) for maintenance and/or replacement down the road.
